Book at least a week in advance — sunrise flights sell out fast on weekends.
Santa Rosa Plateau Ecological Reserve
Over 9,000 acres of pristine native grasslands, vernal pools, and oak woodlands. Home to rare Engelmann oaks and over 200 bird species. 39 miles of trails for hiking, birding, and nature photography.
Visit in spring (March–May) for wildflower blooms and migratory birds.
Temecula Wine Country Cycling
Pedal through the De Portola Wine Trail, a quieter back-road route connecting boutique wineries. Bike rentals available in Old Town Temecula. The 20-mile loop is manageable for most fitness levels.
Ride early morning before tasting rooms open to enjoy the quiet vineyard roads.
Lake Skinner Recreation Area
A 1,000-acre reservoir offering fishing (bass, catfish, trout), camping, and picnicking. Boat rentals available. Peaceful and uncrowded — a local favorite for a relaxed afternoon.
Bring a fishing license — the bass fishing here is excellent year-round.
Temecula Creek Trail
A scenic 3-mile paved trail following Temecula Creek through the heart of the city. Great for walking, jogging, and cycling. Connects to Harveston Lake Park.
